The Gigshark Blog
28/08/2009 Socially Networked!
We have been all over the place recruiting bands and DJ's for our website! As a result, we're now on a few social networking sites. Be our fan, befriend us or write on our walls or something social like that.
So:-
Be our friend on MySpace. We can spam each other's comments :)
Be our friend on Bebo. It's a hideous mess, but we love it...
Be our fan on Facebook. We'll let you know what's going on.
Also, you can add us to your MSN on karl@thegigshark.com
Have fun,
Karl

Just a quick update on a few things that have gone on here.
Our towns list now has Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Aberdeen. More towns will follow, and possibly even rural regions, who can tell? If you can convince us that down the back of your couch is a swinging gig hotspot, we'll add that too!
We've also been tweaking the events interface a bit and made it easy for people to add gigs in other towns than their own. Ah, the magicness of PHP!
See you out there,
Karl

It took days and days of sleepless nights, headaches, RSI and beer, but it happened - the GigShark has expanded!
Inverness and Glasgow have joined Edinburgh on the GigShark. Now, if you're playing a gig somewhere else, you can choose the town you're playing in and the listings will update for that town, and link back to your profile.
Plus, we've made it possible for everybody with a profile to edit all the listings. This is obviously open to abuse, so we're sticking a "report" button if you find your listings vandalised and stuffed with spam or naughty words or something. That user will be banned from the listings database.
Hopefully this will grow into the Wikipedia of gig listings, with everybody promoting their gigs.
If you need a GigShark for your town, just go to www.thegigshark.com and add yours!
Any questions, get in touch :)

Well, isn't the world?
As part of our insatiable hunger to make the Gig Shark your one-stop shop for what's on in your town, we have joined the ranks of the MySpace mob.
See us on www.myspace.com/thegigshark and be our very best friends ;)
In other news...
The band buttons are all links now, so the Shark should be able to expand to contain hundreds, nay, gazillions of Edinburgh bands. Get yourself on it! Ride the shark!
As always, we're up for suggestions on how to make our Shark leaner, fitter and healthier for sniffing out a good gig or nightclub to go to.
We've also been around Edinburgh flyering and accosting bands. If you see us, play extra good!
See you there :)
Eddie The Shark

I'd like to take the time to thank all the people who have put up the first ever profiles on the GigShark.
Firstly, thanks to Kirsty, who tirelessly wrangled with MySQL and PHP to achieve this. Kirsty can be contacted at Tangled Frog if you'd like a website of your very own...
Secondly, thanks to my little brother, Paul from Missing Cat. If you like your blues wild, raw and stompy, Take a listen here.
Thirdly, all the others, some of them we don't even know. Good music though. Check out Glam Scarlet, Switchboard Spectacular and INFALLIBLE in our bands bit...
Now all we need are a load more bands and venues to add profiles. come on Edinburgh, we know you're out there!
So tell all your friends about GigShark, and keep partyin'

As this is our first post on our new blog, I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce The Gig Shark, our new listings page for Edinburgh and the World!
The Gig Shark was an idea I had when getting frustrated looking for a night out in Edinburgh. Although there are a gazillion listings sites out there, it takes so long to Google all the names for Myspaces and personal sites just to get an idea of who sounds like what.
So, I thought, would it not be better to create a site that linked the what's on listings to mp3's? Not a big networking site or anything, just what's on. Click on all the names and get a listen before you spend your money? That's all.
So my brilliant web designer girlfriend and I put together a simple idea and, well, she did all the work :) I just get to sit back and blog about it!
It's all for fun, it's free and easy, it's for everybody and ready for you to use.
Enjoy!
-Karl
